...i guess? About 3 weeks ago I was driving about 15-20 mph down a local road during a heavy downpour. A Tundra blew a stop sign and almost t-boned the rear driver's side of the truck. He stopped at the very last millisecond and as I kept driving the rear tire grazed his front bumper. Looks as if I scraped a curb. This was the extent of the damage. There are two very small scratches on the plastic trim and bumper you can barely see unless you look.

As soon as I got out of the truck the guy was gone. I did a quick look and saw no damage so I didn't bother to chase him down. Eventually when the rain slowed down and I got home, I noticed my rim was scratched up.

Truck has no sign of being out of alignment. Should I have the rear check just in case? Not sure what to do about the rim. They're pretty expensive new. Maybe ebay.....

Just tell everyone you went rock crawling Buster … 😷
Yeah, I have found rims on eBay - sometimes you have to keep looking until one shows up …

If it was the rear, I wouldn't worry about it. If my truck gets totaled, I will save the spare rim and tire and send it your way on the cheap.

Isn't that a solid rear axle? I wouldn't worry about it, if there was damage the truck would not drive straight
Yeah it drives perfect. Plus he barely hit it. It was the slightest graze. I'm actually shocked it's not worse. Kind of hard to believe being he was about to smash right into the rear.

That sure counts as lucky.
I'm sure the damage rankles.

A wheel shop I'm going to try out specified a "one color paint job" in a quote.
My wheels do have a plain paint accent, so that might count as two.
I got some learning ahead of me.

You've three colors (bronzish outer ring, the adjoining black, the ZR2 badge) and a polished surface.
I hope they can spot repair yours. I'd be bracing for a $250 repair.

edit:
To add something which is basal to my vehicle mindset:
Wheels live in a vulnerable location. This renders them less suited to being artsy.
Incidental damage and restoration increase the price.
Remember, I'm the guy who loses sleep because of alloys, sunroofs and leather seats. I'd prefer a lower price.

It happened so fast. As it was happening, I was almost certain the truck was going to get nailed. It felt like the slightest tap, almost like the rear hydroplaned a bit. First reaction was to get out and look for damage. I glanced up for a second and the guy sped off.

I had some "lady" plow right into me in a parking deck.. I was stopped and honking at her (turning through a cut through badly)
She stopped and I tried to backup a few feet and she slammed it back in gear and plowed right into my fender.
hit my plastic fender flare molding. I got her license plate but there was not much of a scratch on it so I let it go.

Thank you for the ugly fender flares subaru.

Good it’s just the rim for the most part. It’s annoying but I think I’d leave it.

Your vehicle looks new, but for a 2008-2014? Enclave I got 4 rims, 3 different times. And they are all mint and ranged from $40–$60 each on eBay from salvage yards. They had the center caps and tpms (very important to verify center caps are included as by default websites say no—they’re $83 ea list and on eBay about $40, rim $579 ea list).

Good luck whatever you decide but I think as you said you lucked out.

It pains me to see that.

It can definitely be repaired, but the wheel has a decal on it too.

I’d probably suck it up, and price a replacement online. How old/how many miles? It’s probably too perfect to chance it with a used one. Your mind may change after a few tire changes though…. So keep the spare as a spare. In time you may not care as much.

Ugh I'm sorry that happened.
