Hyundai Sonata 2011 Turbo

You should put some catch cans on the engines PCV system. One one each side for a turbo motor. You would not believe the gunk they stop from going into the motor, And with a DI motor it is especially important to stop the oil from fouling the valves with carbon.

Good move skipping #3, their service description sounds weak. Only thing you might have done yourself is the cabin filter, but as long as they were doing evap. service, what the heck. They don't call it the stealership for nothing.

Since your car is DI, I have a suggestion for you regarding intake/combustion cleaning and it's currently on special at Amazon. It's called 3M Fuel System Tune-Up Kit and it covers all the aspects of DI combustion chamber cleaning including the intake valves with it's intake system cleaner. Currently $23-28 with rebate and/or subscription. 3M Fuel System Tune Up Kit.

With substantial miles now on your Sonata, curious about your overall impressions of the 2.0 Turbo?

I've been adding a bottle of Techron every OC. That should be good right? If not, I'll spring for the 3M cleaner. Doing it once in a while is no biggie compared to what the dealer wants to steal from me.

Overall impression of the car after a year and a half? I love it. I love everything about it other than the small recalls/issues that I've encountered--something came loose in the glove compartment box and caused a rattle while driving and faulty brake switch prevented the car from starting normally. Those were easily taken care of and solved. The car pulls great, handles well, has great gas mileage, has low maintenance schedules per Hyundai owner's manual, and basically owns up to every penny I paid for it. There are small drawbacks like the lack of seat memory but that can eventually be negated due to the other positives on the car.

The negative experience I have with the car is only with the dealership I bought it from. I have never left that place a happy customer. My idiocy is finally telling me not to go back there anymore and find a new dealer.

Techron would be fine for the injectors, but with DI, carbon build up on the tops of the intake valves has been a concern with early adaptors, as opposed to FI. The intake cleaner in the 3M system is designed to reach the tops of the valves and do some cleaning.

Based on how many miles you've put on in a short time, I expect your driving profile would be better suited to keeping the valves clean. I didn't see you mention anything about any loss of power or fuel economy so that's a good sign for DI.

You've likely got more miles than most with Hyundai DI reporting here, so it's good to hear your thoughts.

Have you had any wheel alignment issues? I recently read about some with the Sonata turbo....Nice Car....and I would avoid that dealership like the Plague.

I haven't encountered any power loss that I could feel so my car should still be running strong. BTW, based on the description of the dealer's "throttle body service", I checked the air filter compartment and all it showed were some sand and a slightly dirty air filter. Their exact words to describe how it looked -- "extremely filthy". Boy they sure know how to trick people.

Nope. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have the left pull issue...(whew). Yes, I am avoiding that dealer for life. It is by far THE worst dealer I have EVER been to. I have NEVER left the place satisfied. No customer service provided was 100% smooth. They also don't like to let you leave without having you pay them for something...(either by ripping you off or making false accusations to make you pay for damages)

Really? Which ones don't? I thought that was required with any fuel injection engine.

+2 And, what controls the air intake without one? FI or DI is fuel, air still has to be regulated somehow.

As this is a Hyundai Sonata thread, are you saying it doesn't have a throttle body?

I'm hoping he was alluding to diesels, which are mostly DI and mostly without throttling.
