Early Hyundai engines were from Mitsubishi, not Toyota....this arrangement continued until well into the 1990's...the Accent 1.5 liter engine was the first full 'all Hyundai' designed and built motor.....
A friend bought a new Pony around '85-6 and the car had severe rust within a year. Hyundai has come a looong way since then, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy one based on that horrific first impression.
