Hydroclear lubricants

How do hydroclear motor oils, like Conoco hydroclear, compare with conventional and synthetic motor oils?

We have a few Ford Motorcraft 0w-20 analysis' that look very good. The Motorcraft is Conoco Hydroclear.

Do we know for sure that all Motorcraft grades are identical to Conoco hydroclear?

Yes, they are. I corresponded with a Conoco engineer last year and he told me that Motorcraft oil is Conoco Hydroclear.

Is Hydroclear something special or just ConocoPhillips trademarked name for some of their oils...kinda like Chevron's Isosyn...good stuff, but not all that special?

We have very few ConocoPhillips oils on the west coast, just some 76 oils in those gas stations.

Hydroclear is made from Conoco's hydrocracked and isodewaxed Group II and Group II+ base oils. Conoco licenses the hydrocracking and isodewaxing processes from Chevron. Conoco's base oil is produced at the Excel Paralube refinery, which is (or was) a joint venture between Conoco and Pennzoil. Hence, Conoco's Hydroclear base oil and Pennzoil's PureBase are the same thing. However, Pennzoil buys some of its base oil from Chevron, too. (Or they did. Who knows what they'll be doing now that Shell owns them. Part of that deal is forcing them to divest their interst in Excel Paralubes.)
