Hydro-Quebec has entered an agreement to purchase Great River Hydro and its 13 hydro-electric power stations (and three reservoirs) in New England for $2.7 billion (~$2 billion USD). Facilities span Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

I expect that this is a power play in an attempt to get their transmission corridor into the US built, something that they've been struggling with to increase their export capacity.

I have noticed that larger Canadian companies have bought smaller oil and gas companies here in New Hampshire. Seems like Canada is more proactive in creating and strengthening basic infrastructure?

I hope it leads to lower prices for energy whether it be electric or petroleum.
