Does anyone here have a list of all the HTHS numbers for various popular oils? I have all the HTHS numbers for Castrol oils and Schaeffer oils, and I know the M1 numbers have been posted too. But what about for Royal Purple, Redline, and some of the popular conventionals too?

Speaking of Castrol, do they publish their US specs anywhere? I can't find anything, which makes me very suspicious! Can you post HTHS numbers that you have?

Castrol does not post them but they will gladly give them to you if you ask, including HTHS. More than I can say about Mobil. Although I agree Castrol's website stinks.

Here is all the Red Line HTHS from the latest data sheet pdf (thanks to 68redlines). Do you want the pdf Patman?:

5w20 - 3.3
5w30 - 3.8
5w40 - 4.6
10w30 - 3.8
10w40 - 4.7
15w40 - 4.7
15w50 - 5.8
20w50 - 6.1

Here are the Schaeffer oil numbers too:

The blends:

#700 15w40=4.3
#701 5w30=3.5
#703 10w30=3.5
#705 20w50=4.55

The full syn:

#156 5w30=3.8

Conventional:

#100 5w30=3.2
#106 10w40=3.46

Can someone list the Mobil 1 numbers in this thread?

Can someone post the Mobil 1 HT/HS? Thanks

Patman, for Syntec 5-50 I have 4.8 from their own spec sheet...the web link was posted the other day.

Mobil's site doesn't post them on the N.A. website...except for their overseas products...

It is also interesting that Mobil 1 posts HTHS and evaporative loss numbers for their global oils but won't post it or provide details on the domestic oils to USA customers.

Patman, I'm almost positive those numbers are not correct. These numbers have been posted several times in here and they were always different. 0w-40 is 3.6>

Check out this link.

BTW, I've noticed the Mobil techs are not always too informed. They will tell you anything sometimes.

I just spoke with someone at Mobil and he said "all I can tell you is they meet the minimum requirements and we don't have that info for public disclosure." Patman, this is most likely what Mobil gave you, the minimum.

Again, they don't disclose much and the data varies from one guy to the next. Amoil does a much better job at giving data. There HT/HS numbers are great too.

This was from Tooslick:

quote:

Mobils data showed the 0w-40 to come in @ 3.6 Cp and I saw some data on the 15w-50 Tri-synthetic that showed a value of approx 5.0 for that formulation. The 0w-30/5w-30/10w-30 are about where there were with the trisyn, in the 3.0 Cp to 3.2 Cp range.

You can get a pretty good idea of the HT/HS by looking at the kinematic or low shear rate viscosity @ 100C:

9.5-10.5 Cst @ 100C--3.0-3.3
Most xw-30 "energy conserving formulations sold in
the US fall in this range

11-12 Cst @ 100C ----3.5-3.7

14 Cst @ 100C =------3.6-3.9

15-16 Cst @ 100C-----4.1-4.3
Most 15w-40's are in that range

18-20 Cst @ 100C-----4.8-5.2
A 5w-50 is going to be at the low end and a 20w-50 at the high end.

Mobil could sure learn something from Shell when it comes to tech questions and how to respond to them. What's the point in having a tech support line when the people who answer the phone know less about the product than the person asking the question?

I agree. I also think there numbers are fine bc most analysis on M1 is usually as good as any other brand out there so specs. don't always tell the whole story. I do know there numbers are higher then what they told Patman. Maybe there is more to SS then what we think. They are very tight lipped about it....and claim it is proprietary. Costomer services is there biggest weakness IMO.

This is what Mobil 1 emailed me just now about the HTHS numbers:

>SAE 0W-20 (soon to be available): >2.6
>SAE 0W-30: >2.9
>SAE 0W-40: >2.9
>SAE 5W-30: >2.9
>SAE 10W-30: >2.9
>SAE 15W-50: >3.7

Not too impressive. Although I recall someone here posting higher numbers before. Perhaps their specs are too vague. Saying it's greater than 2.9 could mean it's 3.5 in reality. Although at the same time, why would they quote a lower number? Wierd.

I'm surprised one of you Amsoil guys haven't jumped in here but I just grabbed all that data off their website. Very impressive numbers!!

Here they are:

Series 2000 oils

20w50=5.1!!
0w30=3.5

Series 3000

5w30HDD= greater than 3.5

Regular series

5w30=minimum of 3.5
10w30= greater than 3.5
10w40=3.93
20w50=4.95
15w40 marine/diesel=4.1

XL7500 series

5w20=2.9
5w30=3.1
10w30=3.2
