One (extreme) example of cooperation would be if a group of local farmers decide to grow special variety of a fruit, with enough farmers that a buyer will want the special crop. A farmer growing one hundred acres of square watermelons might not attract a buyer, but 50 farmers growing 100 acres of square watermelons might attract a regional buyer for a specialty grocer like Whole Foods. Whole Foods on a regional basis likely won't mess with a perishable item grown on 100 acres, but 5,000 acres of that specialty perishable item, all from one central area..... maybe.....
