How to free up a stuck fuel pump without dropping the fuel tank

This logic using flawed. Look where it got you.

Replace it with an OEM or Bosch as previously suggested
I understand where you are coming from. The reason I bought this unit is the sending unit and pump was cheaper than just a sending unit itself. I knew that the pump was a gamble and clearly the gamble didn't pay off.

I ended up dropping the tank and installing a Carter TBI pump I had lying around. I know it's not the Bosch or oem you suggested but it was free and the truck is back in action. Thanks again for everyone's quick replies and help.

As you may know the pump is cooled by fuel, so run out of gas and the pump is toast. You could run a Toyota out of gas every week and never have a problem. Run the GM vehicles with TBI out of gas and you need a new fuel pump.

I am not sure if this is true or not but for me it only seemed to happen in the summer. So better weather to drop the tank than when its cold and snowy.
