I’m guessing the Shepherd did this seeing how it has a puncture wound? Could just be age? I just noticed it today.

What should I do to prevent it from cracking more? This is in my Grand Cherokee.

I would take it to a vinyl repair shop that specializes in this type of repair. I had a couple tears in my Lund Tyee Gran Sport boat seats and I took them to a local shop and they repaired them just like brand new for $100.00 cash. Your repair would be very easy for a qualified vinyl repair professional.

i would invest in quality sheepskin covers as vinyl + even leather can be too hot or cold, real sheepskins are ALWAYS comfortable!! i am lucky as custom sheepskins are only 45 minutes from me in Pa + their prices are good!! the beautiful baseball stitched perforated leather in my TT are HOT in the summer + the roadster is only driven then. if your seats are older they will prolly crack elsewhere in the near future!
