I have heard about a few methods to find vacuum leak in my 01 sable but wanted to see if there were other good ideas. Some have said to use starting fluid and engine will speed up when you find the leak. Others say it is dangerous and to use water and engine will bog when sucking in the water. Pinching hoses may work. Wish I had a smoke machine as that seems to be the best. Any other ideas? Thanks.

+1 the engine speed will increase slightly. Works well on intake leaks as well.

Eric the Car Guy (YouTube) used a spray bottle with water.

Use a MityVac

Connect it to everything that uses vacuum, and to hoses, and check for vacuum.

Buy a cheap fog machine off Amazon and some clear plastic tubing.
Under $40 and you get a similar effect to the $1k smoke machines auto techs have.
And it makes any party awesome.
