My doctor was a medic in the army. As a busy GP, he had little time to waste with clumsy 12 yr olds. He's giving me the dickens for being a wimp while searching through his desk drawer for - a paper clip, unbends it, heats it up with his zippo and jams into my out stretched thumb. There! That's how you fix that.I have also tried to sneak up on the operation with small drills. Best is a quick jab with a hot needle There is a flash of pain , followed by instant, glorious relief. Eat lotsa gelatin, it helps grow the nail out faster

Sometimes it grows out , sometimes the nail splits and cracks and you lose it in pieces . Your hand modeling career is over for a while .

I just had a black nail finish growing out a couple weeks ago. I'd estimate it took 3-4 months.
