be sure to use anti-sieze compound on the exhaust bolts, then retighten them after 2-3 weeks. dont use rtv on valve cover gaskets. use something like permatex #2. fel-pro will not warranty valve cover gaskets if they have had rtv on them. rtv has silicone it is like a lubricant lets things move around.

That explains why all the RTV Ultra Black neevr (Misspelled on purpose) worked. Particularly on Head Gaskets!

Hey, is overheating really the only way a car gets its HG Blown/popped/leaky/Hole in the HG somewheres around overheated Cylinder?

I know engines CAN come back from a Blown HG after an overheat............... provided it didnt mess up the Block...... Head is generally changed to a Remanufactured one, if the old one is elected to not be re-used OR a hole is in it when HG comes off, or just as precaution to "Microcrack" of some kind you cant see if you looked. Right?

This age BMW, with this particular engine is one of the last BMWs that is shade tree tolerant. The car has low level oil and coolant lights. They dont consume HGs normally. Stuff has to break then be ignored to cause an overheat. To over heat to the extent of blowing a head gasket pretty much means the head warped, and will have to milled. Yes, it is a nice car , but to pay to have this job done is more than the car is worth. You also have to find and fix the root cause of the overheat. This is a perfect DIY project. With normal up keep , this is a 300k miles + engine. But you have a 200k engine with a warped head and who knows what else wrong with it. So a used engine is an option too.
