How often are field results checked?

When a new motor oil formulation or a new type of motor oil is introduced, how often are the results 'in the field' checked? For example, if a new oil formulation or new type of oil was developed for semi-trucks, is somebody checking to see what the drivers of those trucks are saying?

I just think you need to check with the people who are actually using the oil (such as truck drivers) and see what results they are getting. An oil needs to look good on paper, have good VOAs and UOAs, AND perform in the field.
