How much longer should I be able to play games on this laptop?

Specs are:
intel i7 12700h 14 core processor
32gb RAM
2TB SSD
RTX 4070 8GB VRAM GPU

I am currently running games like Avowed in 2K resolution on high settings (epic makes it stutter like mad) and I'm getting 90-110 fps.

The fact that I'm running new game in 2k seems pretty promsing right? Meaning I can keep the laptop until I cant run games in 1080p60 anymore? I mean with DLSS I feel like I can run games for a while if I'm not mistaken.

Thoughts?

Probably a very long time depending on what you play. My 10yr old ASUS laptop with pretty much half your specs, still runs war thunder near 100fps in 1080p with low detail, which is good enough for me!
Also rFactor2 runs like a dream still too, RaceRoom seems to run fine too but its steering feedback is pretty bad compared to rFactor2.
That's all I play so hopefully they won't upgrade war thunder beyond my computer anytime soon.

This is like saying how much longer will I be able to drive my car. It is a question that cannot be properly answered.

It could die tomorrow, it could work another ten years. It could run your existing games great for a long time, or you could get into some new games that take more resources.

Use it and enjoy it while it serves its purpose for you and then replace it when it no longer meets your needs.

I'm not trying to brag. I'm srs. Wanting to know when I should expect to upgrade. I'm just praying it makes it long enough to play delta: snake eater.

I'd imagine that being a decent gaming machine for the next 3-5 years. Of course, totally depends on the games you're playing and your expectations (graphic quality, resolution, FPS, etc.) Since it's a laptop, upgrading is basically out of the question.

We have software at work where we had to apply the licensing manually. Old business model, so the licenses expire in the year 2500. I chatted my group asking if anyone will be available to handle the renewal, I’ll set a calendar reminder…

High end laptops need high end long warranties. Hopefully it lasts you at least 5 years.
Mine started to overheat and throttle itself, so I took it apart and the heat pipe mounts had popped off the board allowing it to lift away from the chips. Putting a couple of thin nuts on the other side of the board allowed the heat sink to be bolted down again with some new thermal paste. The W key switch is broken too, so I just use a normal keyboard now, but I guess I could fix that too.
After seeing how small the GPU and CPU are and how they rely on a heat pipe to shed heat, it doesn't seem like they should work at all, but its back to working again for a couple years now. Compared to my sons cheap custom gaming desktop, with 5 fans, a gaming laptop does seem silly once you look inside one but the throttling software did save the chips. But when this laptop finally dies I'll get a desktop.

intel 12th gen despite being nearly 3 gens old was a good time to buy. cpumark of 26000.

The 4070 laptop is about 55% as fast as a desktop 4070-TI

Thats pretty beef for a laptop. 2-3 years at settings similar to now, lowering the settings some.. 5 years or so I'd guess

Longevity of that laptop which guessing generates a ton of heat.
I've actually got a laptop stand and I don't see high temps in any games except for Avowed and Cyberpunk 2077 which I don't play much of. I've got some Kryonaut I'll pay a shop to put on in the even the stock thermal paste goes out.

Is those were all desktop specs, I'd say a very long time.
But laptops are throttled over their eponymous desktop units.

The i7 12700H in alptop is like a i7 10700 in a desktop ( so thats fine).
The RTX 4070 laptop is, maybe like a 4060 desktop , tops.

Even so most games will still run fine except the latest on high graphics settings.
You will have to turn down settings on modern AAA games.

What is your budget situation?
How tight is the money that it makes you hang on to it?

I figure I spend so much time on my computer gaming, that its a quality of life issue for me so I always spring for the latest hardware so everyhting is smooth for me.

My budget is tight. I purchased a 2019 Malibu in November and it's going to need trans fluid change, vacuum pump replacement and pcv orifice tube replacement at 100k. Having my local reasonably priced shop do it.
