How much ATF to Change Fluid in Ranger?

I plan on doing a simple drain (not a full flush) from the transmission pan on the Ranger 4.0L . How many quarts will I need to refill?
It calls for Mercon V so I will likely use Super Tech. It was last done at 46K and now has about 79K.

About 4 quarts. If it's four wheel drive, it has a deeper pan which holds about another half quart.

ST Mercon V is a good choice. Mercon V is such a tight spec that the brand makes no difference whatsoever, as long as it's a licensed product.

Mine takes almost 5 if you drop the filter and let it drain for a while.

Really? I barely got 5 out of mine when I dropped the valve body.

Kind of but not really; you'd expect to get some additional fluid out of the valve body which wouldn't ordinarily come out just by removing the filter. Maybe our pans are different?

Is it 2WD or 4WD?

I was thinking it was 4.5 is pulled through the dipstick tube...
