Hello, long time lurker here, first time poster. How many of you gentlemen and ladies on BITOG have used the same brand of oil in all of your cars and for how many miles? I have used PYB in all of my vehicles for a long time. One car has over 245k on it already. Older truck has over 378k on it. Both on PYB.

Not me. I buy what's on sale and I've had very good results. After years of reading here it became very obvious that any name brand oil will work well in the vast majority of vehicles. A few vehicles may have some special oil requirement, but they're in the minority.

Yeah, my neighbor has a older like 98' toyota 2wd truck with like 192k on it now, and he uses either ST 5w30 or whatever store brand is on sale.

I have been an Amsoil user for almost 20 years. It's made a believer out of me....... I use Wally World syn for Auto-RX cleanings though.

I first started running synthetics about 1988.

I have used M1 oils for 34 years in all types of engines. I do 10K OCIs and have run engines as high as 354K on a Ford Ranger(between me and my son). Others up to 300K and some 200+. All engines ran fine when sold or givin away.

Most likely you won't find many. The old day's of product dedication is just about gone. Results are what members are looking for and always looking for better lubes.....welcome

My father always used SHELL/PENNZOIL, and my one uncle uses nothing but FORMULA SHELL/SHELL ROTELLA. My uncle has a ton of tractors and heavy equipment.

I used M1 in my Z when I first bought it around 8 years ago. Tried a few different oils out of boredom and curiosity I guess, but went back to M1 and will stay with it.

I've used VWB in all my vehicles since I started driving. Works good for 5k oci. I have Mobil 1 in my new to me Mercury Milan. Just had to try it out. Seems to run pretty smooth. All though the VWB runs pretty smooth also in my cars. Never had an issue with the Valvoline.

Hi there, I am also a lurker on here lot of reading, this is my first post.
I am a long time Pennzoil user as well. But in some of my cars in the past I have used Mobil 1, QGB,Valvoline, All where good oil's, but I always go back to Pennzoil, Right now I am using PU.

I bet your autos are filled with SLUDGE! Everyone knows Pennzoil causes sludge! Just kidding. Keep hearing old timers, like my FIL, repeat this myth.

I ran Havoline for a long time. Probably switched cars more than I did oil so I have no basis for knowing how well it performed. Used Havoline up until 2005. The Grand Caravan that I purchased new was consuming about 3/4ths of a quart of oil in 1200 miles.

I started researching, found this site, and switched to synthetic oil which helped the oil consumption. Since then, I've used Pennz Plat but have tried a few other oils at times as well (Motorcraft Full Syn, Mobil One, and a couple of others). Vehicle currently has almost 156k miles and seems to run great. As long as price is reasonable, I will stick to Pennz Platinum.

I used to switch oils without regard to what I had just drained.
Never had a problem with that.
I now prefer to use the same oil for at least a few changes.
Since you can usually load up on the FAR oil de Jour, this is no problem.
I have been doing UOAs on my little, mostly old, fleet, and it is probably better to do a UOA after a few runs of the same oil, if only to eliminate the leftovers from previous oils' add packs.
Brand loyalty?
Not really.
I do like Maxlife for the BMW, since I had a great UOA with it.
I like PP for most engines, since I've had good UOAs using it in the older Accord and the Impreza.
We'll see how much I like Synpower when I drain it and take a sample for a UOA next week.
My feeling is that if an oil has worked well in a given application as you use the vehicle, why not consider your oil choice dilemma solved?
OTOH, put a different API spec SL/SM/SN oil in the sump with every change and the engine will certainly still be running just fine when the vehicle is scrapped.

When I buy a new vehicle I review the oil requirements and pick one and stick with that brand until I sell. Not a believer in switching all the time just because ther is some sale going on.

1968, ran some synthetic oil made for Navy aircraft in some ground equipment use on the airfield, it did great, we never blew an engine. The jet engine oil was red, it worked is all I can say and we had never heard of it til then. Worked well in those old 6 cyclinder engines.

I got my Outback with 63k on it, and it had seen Valvoline, Pennzoil, Mobil, and a few others by that point. Whatever the bulk oil was at whichever oil change place the previous owner stopped at when it was due for a change.

Used Pennzoil YB and Formula Shell until about 98k. Been running cheap to free synthetic ever since: PP, QSUD, G-Oil.

Only difference I've ever noticed is some brands tend to quiet down the piston slap that is common on these engines a bit quicker.
