Roughly at what mileage do most new cars stop showing significant "wear metals" in their UOA's.

I'm trying to determine my OCI's for the first few changes.

It depends what type of engine you have. If you drive an 05 Corolla, then after about 10-15k miles, the UOAs will look pretty good. My wife's 03 Corolla showed outstanding wear at about 15k miles.
If you had an LS1 (like I do), then most of your wear would look fairly good after 10-15k miles, except for the copper........which would take something like 40-50k miles to drop to "normal" levels.

Yes it does depend upon the motor.
So... IYHO what would OUTSTANDING numbers be?!!!
What about a Tacoma (2004) and where and or how would these numbers be verified?
HOW can We tell what are OUTSTANDING numbers?

There are no set standards.

You do a series of UOA's and watch the trending. Some Oil Analysis companies give a vehicle average, some give you a specific engine health check-up.

Terry Dyson (site sponser) can give you more info.

I am a very very newbie to this site...

But I am interested in this thread as I have a new 05 Corolla.

Trying to decipher what you guys are saying:

The engine is fully broken in by 15,000 miles? I should switch from Wallyworld ST at 5000 miles or 15000?

I'll be using Mobile1 in the future.

For reference, the car has 2000 miles on it now. 1000 miles were mixed, then from about 900 to 1800 was a trip to Boston and back via I88 and 90.

I changed the oil from whatever Toyota had in it to 5W30 ST and a Purolator PureOne at 2000 miles.

What should be the plan? I don't do UOA. I drive a lot for work, mostly highway 2 lane, 45-55, but my daily commute is 3 miles 35-55mph one way. I am just looking for broad generalizations based on what people have seen and the general conventional wisdom, or something
dunno.gif

Ideas?

Thanks,
G
