How far is SN GF-5 from being a synthetic?

I'm curious what you oil experts would say to that. Isn't SN GF-5 pretty far advanced itself ?

I guess it is like 5W-20....how close is it to being synthetic. IMO...there might be quite a bit of synthetic already in that grade of quality dino oils.

I think there is little doubt that conventional is closer to what we call "synthetic" (Grp III). The additive packs are much better in conventional oils today. I think you have to look at the different PDS's and compare. Some majors are very close to their syn PDS. NOACK Volatility is one of the few specs that make a difference between conventional and "syn".
