how do you warm up you car?

I use Mobil1 15W50 in my BMW 740 and what I do is let the engine idle for about 30 seconds after start to let the oil go through the engine parts and then drive away gently. Is it a right thing to do? Is 30 seconds long enough for oil to go through the engine?
