Where are you buying Diazinon and Dursban?

Local feed store. It may be out ...I'm working on last years supply. a 6" strip in each room and one round around the house and I'm bug free for around 3-4 months.

Nasty stuff though ..Diazinon especially ..but very effective.

You can't get rid of the fleas 100%. In an outdoor environment it is impossible to control all the variables that would re-infest your dogs. Reduction is the only hope. I would avoid using any harsh chemicals when other forms of life would be exposed as well. When dogs are kept outside and one expects to be rid of fleas....you may as well urinate into the wind.

Give them a garlic tablets once a day. The smell keeps the fleas off of them, but then they might jump on you. Fleas can live a very long time without finding a source. They are hard to get rid of.

Tried the garlic - fresh crushed garlic mixed with hamburger. Helped a little bit.

Sprayed the house and yard - helped a little bit.

Near me, I'm in a pretty urban area, but there are lots of stray cats spreading fleas all over the place.

Got the Advantage and Frontline (used both, they both work), no more fleas! Great stuff, these products are nothing like the stuff you can buy off the shelf at Wal Mart. They dry in the animals fur, so no oily fur.

If usinfg a product like this, the rest of the fleas in the environment will die off, as they no longer have a food source. It may take a while though.

As to flea bombs, the foggers, small cans that you place in water by Raid I think, are the only ones I've found that will reliably kill fleas.

For your yard, Ortho Max, good stuff! Kills bugs, but the active ingredient, Bifenthrin , is a heck of a lot more pleasant to use than Diazinon.

FYI - Diazinon is an organo-phosphorus based insectide, not terribly dissimilar to Nerve Gas. I still use it for my veggies, as the stuff works GREAT! Just be very very VERY careful about getting the stuff on you. It ain't good for ya!

Wow!

I placed my order for the "Program" flea pills on friday night and they arrived monday morning.

I paid $75 for a 12 month supply (12 pills!), including $1 for priority shipping. The website I used is entirelypets dot com. No prescription required. Very speedy service! Highly recommended if you buy these pills.

So far, the dish detergent and minced garlic are working well. I found some expired Benadryl and gave that to the dogs (1mg per pound) and it cured the itching.

Honestly, if I had known how well the dish detergent works, I wouldn't have bought these expensive pills. I'll probably use the pills to break the cycle every spring for a few years and follow that up with garlic in the food and dish water baths.

Now I'm looking for brewer's yeast to add to the food. Baker's yeast is no good.

I'll post back later when I know more about these pills and home remedies.
