Anyone know anything about the new honeywell defense oil filters. Fleet Farm has them for 2 for $5. I always use a Pureoilator pureone. The shelf looked as though they have not sold one yet.

And I expected this thread to be about an overpriced filter. I was expecting to see it sitting next to the $500 toilet seat and the $200 hammer.

I think construction is the same as Orange Fram but cheaper filter media.
A cut away was posted a while ago.

Defense is the "value-priced" line of filters from FRAM.

Imagine that: a filter "cheaper" than the Orange Can of Doom...

I'd use an ST with WAY more confidence.

That is hard to imagine a cheaper quality filter than the orange can. A made in China Fram?

If that is true wouldn't it make it a better Fram as people don't really complain about the quality of Fram filters, more just the price.

People complain about the price because the quality is marginal at best.

*cruddy at best.

Fixed that for ya.

the defense filters are 100% orange can fram, and strangely enough, they seem to work very well! it must be that black "grip" stuff on the orange cans that lowers the quality.

Has anybody cut any open for what that is worth, or is this all guess work? Considering the lack of proof of doom from the orange can, why wouldn't they be OK?

I examined both today.
The Defense filter looked to be the same construction as the orange Fram except no black 'grip' coating.
It did, however, feel 'heavier'.
Odd.
We'll have to wait until someone cuts one open and photographs the insides.
Hard to believe they'd try to sell a filter with even less media inside.

If you had one in your hand.... why are you waiting for someone else to cut one open?

'Cause I'm on a budget, don't want to buy something I'd never use, and have no means of cutting one open should I actually buy one, and no digital camera.
Not knowing how to put a picture 'in' a post doesn't help any either.
