The following Blackstone report is the first oil analysis on my 06 Honda VLX 600CC V-Twin, purchased new July 07. The engine had a total of 4014 miles with 3137 miles on the Honda GN4 10W40 oil sampled.

BILL: Don't be too alarmed by the highlighted numbers. High wear and silicon are common finds in new engines. In fact, we'd be surprised if we didn't find them. The excess wear metals are from new parts breaking in while silicon is from sand-casted parts and sealers used when assembling your engine. Both should improve with subsequent oil changes. Universal averages are based on an oil run of ~4,000 miles.
Neither the fuel at 1.3% nor the slightly low viscosity is a problem. Check back in another 3,000 miles to establish wear trends.

During the last oil/filter change I used a Honda filter with 15W40 CJ4 Rotella T oil. I now have 5000 miles on the bike, and should have 7000 miles by mid November, when I will change oil/filter & send Blackstone another sample. Since the aluminum was 3 times higher than normal, I hope the next sample will have much lower aluminum content.
