All,

I found these pictures of an Accord V6 engine with 120,000 miles that had its valve covers removed for a valve adjustment. The oil had been changed every 3000 miles since new. It is unclear whether this engine had been a regular customer of the independent repair shop that performed the valve adjustment, as this shop normally recommends a valve adjustment at 105K.

OTOH, these are pictures from a ’03 RSX with 26,000 miles, in for an early valve adjustment as part of its 30K service. It’s very possible that this vehicle had 3K oil changes since new (shop’s recommendation), as the owner seemed extra “cautious” to have the 30K service performed early, and seemed quite friendly to the repair shop to allow them to perform an early valve adjustment as part of the shop’s experiment:

Another change is the exhaust manifold on the back and the intake on the front. Many of the Toyotas are sporting this design change as well. I don't know what the advantage is, but there must be some benefit.

Is this guy for real?

Just shows you how much they know about cars.

OK vad, enlighten us with your automotive brilliance. Honda and Toyota 4 bangers have always had the intake ports on the firewall side, exhaust ports towards the radiator. Recently, most manufacturers have switched. What's wrong with the guys statement?

He didn't make any statement.
All he said was that he doesn't know about the reasons for the switch, that's all. And it's rather basic knowledge and it's very suprising of them not to know this stuff.

That he has not a slightest idea why they switched.

Why don't you tell us. Shorter, straighter exhaust path? I don't see any cooling benefit. After perusing their website, they look like a TOP NOTCH automotive repair shop.

I was waiting if you would tell us.
Yes, shorter, straighter exhaust path.
Now tell me, what would be the main advantage to do that? (from a modern manufacturer stand point, not a tuner)

Shorter path to the cat, but many configurations with the exhaust manifold in the front have no longer a distance to the cat, as it's practically a part of the manifold. Whoopity doo.

I guess the manufacturers are really dumb, then.
Don't you think?
BTW, why is it so important for them to have the shortest path to the cat?

Bingo!!!
We have a winner!
And it ain't Drew99GT.

Now back on topic.
I apologize for taking it in the wrong direction.

Actually, I only knew that b/c I was trying to convince someone w/ a 1997 Saab 900 NOT to move their cat further back downstream. They were worried it's location was a potential factor in sludge formation.
