Honda Rubicon

I own a 2001 Rubicon and would like to know if there is a Schaeffer oil that would work for this application? Remember this is a sump system (5.25 qts) that supplies the engine as well as the hydraulic style transmission.

Owners manual calls for PRO HONDA GN4 4-Stroke oil. And says do not use oils with graphite or molybdenum additives. (could adversely affect clutch operation)

Honda GN4 is the dog turd of motorcycle oils.

Honda HP4 is the three legged dog of motorcycle oils.

Almost anything is better than those two.

I doubt moly is going to be a problem with your wet clutch. But, it you don't want to risk it, Amsoil or M1 MX4T don't have moly. I think most Schaeffer oils have some moly..

I'd talk to Bob about this application, but I'd think that the Schaeffers 15w40, Supreme 7000 would work well here. As a general rule diesel oils aren't friction modified and are compatable with wet clutches. In addition, schaeffers is using a different type of organic moly - it's not MoS2.

As I recall, Bob has a Harley and posted some picks with the chaincase cover removed. The mechanical parts were extremely clean and the whole thing looked very good to me.

Honda does not recommend a 15W40 oil for their bikes and ATV's whereas the HD's go for a 20W-50.

I am using Amsoil 10W-40 motorcylce oil in my 2001 Honda Rancher 4x4. 2 years and its been running flawlessly.
