Went to Autozone tonight. So much to choose from.

1. M1 EP - $5.99qt
2. M1 GF-4 $4.99qt
3. Mobil 7500 -$2.89
4. Exxon Superflow- $1.29qt
5. Motorcraft - $2.79qt
6. Honda Oil = Superflow?

I'm curious to know what oil you guys are using for those that have Hondas that call for 20wt oils?

I'm changing out the factory oil sometime between 1k-3k miles, putting Honda's oil back in then I will move to synthetic around 7k miles or so.

My car also calls for 5-20...

It's a toss-up for first preference between RL and RP 5-30.
I have fresh M1 5-20 in it now and is patiently waiting for the end of snow season until it sees pavement again...

I just got a 5 qt bottle of m1 gf-4 for my grlfriends integra (94) I figure it has some moly, some boron, and should hole up well in the engine.

Flash, have you had any UOA's done? What if you drain the factory oil out at 2k and put back in the Honda oil? I know Honda is funny about that but I see no problem doing it.

2004 Element has Redline 5w-20 in it. 2004 Acura TL has Redline as well, but I plan on trying some Delvac 1 in it soon. I want to see how 5w-40 does in these engines.

I believe EM makes the Honda Oil you can buy at the stealership and it's similiar to SuperFlo, but I don't believe SuperFlo is the same as factory fill stuff, i.e., not enough Moly and probably other stuff we can't see.

And even though MolaKule once said high levels of Moly could be used to fortify cheap dino, I don't believe Honda would use cheap dino, stick more Moly in it, and then tell drivers to use it for 10K-15K miles. I still believe there's something special about the "break-in" oil and wouldn't be so quick to dump it to early.

04 Acord V6 with 10,196 miles.

Factory Fill- out @ 2,800. Castrol GTX 5w20.
6,800 Castrol GTX 5w20 (Very clean blots every 1K and ZERO oil consumption. Wife was getting 31MPG on her daily 140 mile commutes, practrically to the tenth.)
10,130 Mobil 1 5w20. (expecting improved MPG's)

BUSTER:
Question back to you, please. IF only a 3K OCI max is used, are there in your opnion any significant or even marginal advantages to using a syn over a dino, excluding eco-political-social concerns, and what are they?

04 V6 Accord

Used my last three 5 Qt. Jugs of M1 10W-30 before switching to 5W-30 since you can't buy the 0W-20 in the big jugs and I dislike buying quart bottles.

I should also mention that with about 4000 miles on the car (I was already on M1 10W30) that I did about a 800 mile highway stint in the car and averaged 31 MPG with one tank of gas coming in at 34MPG. And lets just say, I don't often go the speed limit on the interstate...and the AC was on the whole way.

Interesting data. We recently made the ~900 mile drive from here to Seattle in one go and got 29.7 mpg for the trip on our '03 V6 Accord. Three people, lots of luggage, and a bunch of mountain ranges to go over on the way along with a little bit of slow and go in a few spots. We were running Exxon Superflo 5W-20.

I do not believe that the theoretical fuel economy benefits of 5W-20 oils show up in any meaningful way in real world driving.

My wife's 2000 Civic was the very last year to call for 5w30. I'm running GC 0w30 in it (as I'm sure everyone knows by now)

You may be right 427Z06. One thing that Molekule did say is that Moly is only a FM when used at levels under 500ppm. Only over that amount is it an AW additive.

I will use M1-5w-30 for the life of the car. BTW I got 36-37 mpg during a trip to Atlanta last summer. The AC was on the whole time. The car is my "sunday driver" in that I don't use it to commute to my job which is 8 miles away.
That keeps the start-ups to a minimum of course.

Factory fill till 4000+ miles, M1 0w20, 4000+ miles, M1 0w20, 6600 miles, now M1 0w20 heading toward 10,000 miles. ST 3593A at each change. UOA's posted here.

Honda Civic Hybrid.

'03 4 cyl Accord w/MT .... currently has 20K miles

Schaeffers 7000 Supreme 5W-30 and 10W-30 after first change. Currently doing 5K OCI with 5W-30 and 6oz of LC and another 1 oz every 2K miles. I do 80% trips under 5 miles and the LC is helping.

I'm using M1 (1 qt M1R 0W-30 + 4 qts M1 0W-40 + a little added moly) in my '00 Acura 3.2TL (newer 3.2TLs with the same engine call for 5W-20).

I'm under the impression that Honda engines like moly so that's why I'm using M1. I haven't considered using RL or other high moly oils only because of the ready availability of M1.
