**Which fits a 99 Fourtrax 300 properly? A K&N 112 or K&N 113? It doesn't even show what fits on the K&N website but shows on the rancher 350 that the KN113 is correct. Also these both are supposed to take the same filter essentially.

Okay, just bought two quads; a 1999 Honda Fourtrax 300, and a 2003Honda rancher 350. I'm not loosing sleep over it but want to make sure I have the correct oil filter from K&N and won't cause any issues. Initial look ups shows that both of these take the same oil filter. Decided to buy locally rather than wait for shipping. Long story short, initially bought from advanced auto the only two in stock; a carquest and a K&N 113. Oddly enough the carquest came with an O ring for the oil filter housing cap. However, the K&N did not and no other filters were in stock. Without known service history I wanted to change everything on both quads, and change the oil a second time on the rancher 350 because of questionable lengths of time.

So, ran to auto zone and picked up an STP for $7 that came with the O Ring.

So, I've looked up/ researched and basically everyone says the differences are so little between the Kn-112 & kn-113 that it will not make a difference. Wanted to see if anything different is said here. I removed the KN-112 from the fourtrax 300 and installed a KN-113. There's a small size difference and IIRC the 113 has an oil bypass. However, both of these seem to take the same filter generally.

Thanks in advance!

Both Wix and Fram have good fitment web pages. Look up the filter and then x-ref to the K&N.

According to the K&N website, the 112 is 37mm tall and 50mm wide. The 113 is 2mm wider; 52mm.
I doubt that makes any difference, but fitment would be up to you to test.

When in doubt look at Honda microfiche and buy OEM. Unless you don't have a Honda dealer near you
I couldn't agree more! I only use oem for all three toyotas and recommend oem for basically anything else. Meanwhile somehow oem toyota is always cheaper than aftermarket! And one of the best qualities.

As you mentioned, OEM Honda will be my next choice. There's a few places I can plan ahead while passing by and grab extra filters.

Does Honda use the same size threads on their OPE engines as their cars?

I know they have an OPE filter that's the same size as their car filter, 15400-PLM-A02PE

Per Fram's website this looks like a cartridge filter, not a spin-on filer. If it's a cartridge filter you need to use the exact one specified by whatever brand you're going to use.

Fram cross reference shows that KN-112 crosses to the CH6015 that Fram specs as shown above. They do not show any cross reference for a KN-113. So looks like the KN-112 is the correct filter.

Thanks for the info! Oddly enough K&N states the Kn113 fits the rancher 350 and not the fourtrax 300.

Oddly enough both orielly and advanced auto parts cross referenced a KN113 for both machines. So being I was already at both those stores, I took it as the proper filter number. Don't know why they do. Not sure if they even sell the KN-112. Of course I already installed the KN-113 in the Fourtrax 300.

Stopped by a powers ports dealer. They didn't carry Honda parts. They did carry K&N and Hiflo. Their part numbers are KN-113 & HF-113. The Hiflo does look identical, and I read into them people trust them. $6 for the Hiflo and $12 for the K&N or so.

I looked up online again and using filtercrossreference.com (it has a - in it), and the fram website I came up with that it needed a HF-112 or KN-113. However their system said The 113 part numbers. Went ahead and bought the HF-112. Even on the Hiflo box it lasted the correct filter from the honda part number to hiflo was HF-113. So they are reasonably interchangeable due to the spring inside the back of the filter housing I'd imagine!

Still always a little schetchy due to not having a mechanical oil pressure gauge with any questionable filters. Oh well! I won't loose sleep over it.

If you can use the Honda Fiche to find the model number of the filter your Fourtrax uses, you can use the HiFlo catalog to narrow it down. If you click on the filters (12 & 13) it narrows down to which OEM filter it crosses to. HiFlo makes a good filter, is the mfg for K&N filters, and their stuff isn’t expensive. I’ve run HiFlo on race bikes (tracked 06 R6 primarily), a ZZR1200, and now my wife’s Rebel 1100 DCT (the transmission has its own filter too).

Thanks for the info. I will probably buy a few more hiflo. Definitely makes me feel a little better too. They are nearly half the price of K&N. I'm not big on fram or stp etc. The old filter I pulled out of the rancher 350 I bought was a cardboard type media instead of pleated paper and was able to be folded and coming apart when moved with my fingers. Honestly the reason would be it was on there for too many engine hours, or too many days but still.

😳 yeah that would have freaked me out lol.

If you can find the “racing” filters from HiFlo, they have a little better flow characteristics if that’s important to you, but they also have a removal nut welded to the end of the can.

Saw these on Amazon $20 for 10 filters https://www.amazon.com/AloneGoer-Compatible-15412-HM5-A10-Foreman-ATC250ES/dp/B08ZSGH5RT
