My 97 accord 4 cyl's owners manual says that oci's for normal condition is 12000km or 1year with dino, and for severe it says 6000km or 6 months... are these figures right?!

That sounds about right for a Honda. The trick is correctly determining whether you fall into the normal or severe service category.

If you plan on keeping it a while then go by the severe at least.

Easy thing to do is use Mobils new oils and follow the numbers on the bottle.

hey, I have a 94 auto, and have about 185k, and just changed to syn about 18k ago with no problems.

OCI's for me are about 6-7k, could go longer but i have a lot of mileage. if you have low mileage, you could probably go with dino for 6k.

I drive some mtn, and a lot of city, so Im in the severe category.

I think this is pushing it by not by much if you use a good dino oil. Chevron Supreme is one of the best and I plan on 6000 mile changes with it on my 97 accord. A UOA will tell me for sure that this is reasonable but I feel sure it is. Your 12000 kilometers is about 7500 miles so maybe just a little too much. I guess Honda wants you to buy a new one ever so often.
