There seems to be a few people that want to make oil decisions based on either ester content or on mineral-based additives. Do any of the BITOG blenders think that there would be a market for a homebrew kit for this market? A bottle of each additive that can be detected in a used oil analysis (moly, calcium, zinc, ect) in the appropriate carrier would be the basis of the kit. You may want throw-in a quart of each of the major synthetic base stocks and a short-course the role of each additive. You could even create a permanent thread here to follow the results. We could all see the used oil analysis and make recommendations on how to mix the next batch.
I do think that there are people that would buy the kit. I am NOT suggesting that this would be a good idea for our engines. Customers could unbalance those well balanced additive packages. I am suggesting that such a kit may be a way to lighten the wallets of those that think they know what is and isn't "worth" the money. You can probably also get customers that just want that 'little bit more' than the neighbor/competitor. If a little knowledge is power, sell them the tools to know what is in their crankase.
