I recently purchased Mobil 1 online at MSCDirect as advised by Mobil. I specifically asked for Mobil 1 Super Syn 0W-30, they sent me Extreme Formula Mobil 1 0W-30. Thier receipt says Mobil 1 Super Syn 0W-30, but as I have stated I received Extreme Formula 0W-30 full synthetic.
I have an F150 5.4L Triton V8 and am concerned about the "piston slap" issue. I know that the latest formulations of Mobil 1 have "moly" in it, which according to most knowledgable posters on this board reduces the incidence of piston slap. Is Extreme Formula Mobil 1 the SAME as Mobil 1 Super Syn? My engine is running quiet as a mouse on Mobil 1 Super Syn 0W-30.....I'd like to keep it that way. Anyone with an opinion out there?
thanks in advance.....stay safe

I would call Mobil directly and ask:

1-800-662-4525

It is either old stock before Tri-Syn and SuperSyn, or it is bottled for industrial uses is my guess.

There are a few autozones around here but they don't always have the SS 0W-30.....I'd rather get it online than drive around half a day trying to find it, save some gas, and maybe $.

Mobil 1® With SuperSyn™ Formula 0W-30
Enhanced Fuel Economy Formula *

Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 0W-30 is capable of pumping at -58° F (-50° C) and pouring at -65° F (-54° C). At these temperatures, conventional oils are essentially frozen solid. This means that Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ provides superior protection for engine parts during cold start-ups. And since it is a 30-grade oil at normal operating conditions, it safeguards your engine under normal and high-temperature conditions. Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 0W-30 also offers significant fuel economy benefits versus conventional 10W-30 motor oils.

Benefits of Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 0W-30:

Delivers the best fuel economy in the Mobil 1 line.
Quicker cold starts and faster protection.
Provides a wider temperature range of protection compared to 5W-30 and 10W-30.
Protects during high-temperature, high-stress situations.
Meets stringent European fuel efficiency standard M111.
GM owner's manuals recommend using synthetic 0W-30 for temperatures below -20° F (-29° C).
Exceeds API SL/CF and ILSAC GF-3, and is recommended by many U.S. automakers.
Exceeds ACEA A1/B1 and A5/B5.

Applications:
Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ 0W-30 can be used in virtually all passenger vehicle gasoline engines and light-duty diesel engines. It also exceeds "Energy Conserving" ratings. It offers excellent protection if you drive during extreme-temperature conditions, while providing improved fuel economy over conventional motor oils.

* Follow the viscosity grade and API service category
recommendations in your vehicle owner's manual.

Mobil 1 motor oils are capable of protecting engines at well over 400° F.

Tenderloin, If you are going to post specs could you explain what your thinking is at the same time? It doesn't seem to relate to the topic of the thread, and if you don't say anything how can we know what your point was?

I pulled up MSCDirect's page and boy are they just all sorts of screwy. When you search for Mobil 1 0w30, you get a picture of the Extreme Formula with a description of TriSyn.

Then in the catalog pages, it has pictures of Advanced Formula with descriptions of either TriSyn or SuperSyn (all with the same order numbers).

I would say call 'em back and ask for a new shipment of SuperSyn. No sense in playing with old SJ oils when you ordered the latest version.

ferb!

Now See, had you called georgeCLS at avlube being one of our site supporters, could have helped you and got you what you wanted the first time. Thats the problem with some that don't deal with issues like we do, they have no idea what you're really talking about a lot of times so they miss what you're really looking for. GeorgeCLS knows his stuff and I'm sure wouldn't have missed that.

I think George only sells 0w40, at least the last time I checked.
