Hitch receiver

Question about my trailer hitch receiver. On my old 89 Pontiac 6000 the reciever ended up rusting on the inside of the reciever. I want to use something on the inside of the reciever to help reduse or eliminate rusting on my hitch on my Dakota. I was thinking of using a light spray grease or something similar. Any suggestions out there would be appreciated.

I just spread a thin layer of grease on mine every 6 months to a year. I just pull it out, wipe it of with a rag and re-apply. I've never had a problem.

I just used some spray Red Grease to coat the inside of the receiver.
