HIPA brand oil filter for lawn mowers

The WIX oil filter for this application was $20. this one is currently priced at $8.99 before a 28% off coupon, which makes it $6.48
They're charging an absurd price for the Wix 51056. It's $22.99 at O'Reilly which is $8.00 more than what they are charging for other regular Wix filter.

At least you have the OPTION for an oil flter. My " Toy Built"rider with a 15.5 hp engine doesn't even have one ! You wouldn't believe the metal shavings that comes out when you dump the oil. But what were they thinking ?!?! So, to offset that mess, I have to dump the oil more frequently. A real pain in the a-- !!!! to boot. Briggs gives you a plastic extension tube to extend the plug hole past the frame. Still leaks and make a mess. You can't plumb out the hole, or it will hit the tie rod for the wheel. So, you're stuck with at least a 5 rag slop job. I'll trade you're Hipa filter engine for my P.O.S. no filter Briggs anyday. ANY filter is better than no filter. Let's see how long I can keep this alive on over 3/4 acre of grass :( I can see a piston rod at the starting line ! :(

BTW, I installed a Hipa in-line fuel filter on the above garbage. The machine has a " filter" in the tank. Yeah, right. So, one day, I'm cutting grass, and it dies.. Cranks ok, no fuel. Spray starting fluid down the throat, and it starts. I look at the filter, clogged up. So yeh, I'd say Hipa is good in my book. The OE Briggs filter in the tank caught squat.

Yeah. Somebody somewhere decided that small engines like that which don't produce a ton of horsepower don't need an oil filter. I've seen a number of people say that myself. Your experience is showing you that's pure nonsense.

Thanks :)...I bought the stupid thing on sale from WM, online no less. Learned my lesson, BIG TIME. There wasn't a complete photo of the engine. I should have researched deeper before hitting " continue to checkout" button. Thought for sure Briggs would have thrown an oil filter on it. The pic was the intake side. Got it 1/2 off, plus another $300 refund because it arrived damaged ( dented hood and broken headlight--who cares anyway ). So, I'll run it till it drops. Just change the oil more often. Live and learn :)
