I'm about to do a drain-n-fill in a '97 Mercury Villager (~90k) transmission with Valvoline MaxLife DextronIII/Mercon ATF. Has anybody used any of the high mileage ATF products out there?

Agreed, marketing gimmick.

What's the price on that Valvoline stuff? If the price is close to Mobil 1 ATF, get the Mobil 1...better ATF, high or low mileage.

Actually, nowhere near... $2.25 a quart (Mobil 1 ATF is $5-$6 a quart where I live), cheaper than the Valvoline Blend (30% cheaper), but 40%-50% more expensive than regular Dexron/Mercon ATF.
I did it yesterday. The smell is quite different from the regular ATF, most likely the additive package. We'll see how it goes.
I will be going with Mobil 1 for my 2002 Maxima though, but I couldn't justify using it in the "beater" minivan, which is close to be replaced.

You could use RedLine High Temp Dexron III ATF.

This has a slightly higher viscousity and improves shift quality on worn transmissions.

Just a thought.

I've seen a few Honda SportShift owners that have tried this and had good success.

Isn't RedLine like $7 a quart? Maybe for the Max, not the soon to depart minivan...

Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, after a drain'n'fill with about 4 quarts of MaxLife ATF, the transmission is shifting better now, specially the 1st-2nd shift, which used to be pretty hard before. So far, it seems it has made bit of difference.
