Happy Thanksgiving!

Need a High Mileage Oil recommendation in 5w20 for the wife's 03 Escape. She's got 105k and I'm trying to find an oil, ATF, or gear oil leak in this engine. So I'm thinking a good high mileage oil to condition the seals that are probably hard or shrunk.

Not expecting miracles but I know the Duratec 3.0 is prone to seal leaks so any little bit helps. Really doesn't burn any oil - dipstick is almost always within the normal range between oil changes and this leak is quite small - never anything on the driveway but it seems to be dripping on the driveshaft and getting slung onto the exhaust pipe and every once in a while we get a whiff of burning oil.

Thanks for any recommendations.

These engines are famous for oil pan leaks, an easy fix but you have to remove some exhaust components to remove the pan. Sometimes the timing cover is leaking also. If it were mine I would replace the oil pan gasket.

Good idea.

Another good idea. Include pcv vacuum hose, and check valve covers for leaks. On my sons car a vc leak follows dipstick tube down to transmission cooler line where a drop of oil is hanging.

Thanks guys. I'm not hoping for Miracles and just want something to maybe stop the leak until the warmer weather so I can figure out where it's coming from.

The plan is to get under there and try to clean things with some brake cleaner to clean it up so I can see where it's coming from. Almost looks like a seal at the 1/2 shaft but the stuff I found seemed to be more brown than any pink.

I may tackle the PCV in the spring but from what I remember on the Duratec 3.0 it's buried and I don't look forward to taking the intake off....

I've got an '03 Tribute with the same engine. Only oil leak I seem to have to deal with is that 5-6k after an OC, the filter 'works itself a bit loose', and drips down the canister just a bit.

However, I do have leaks from my transmission - it leaves a few drops on the ground every once in a while, and goes through about 1/5th of a quart a month.
