Any thoughts on E-BAY vendors for HID conversion? looking at bi-xenon-don't know how it works-slim digital ballast-HD wire harness-5000k white. This kicks up price a lot but am suspicious of cheapest kits. The current 9004 is really bad, also thinking of low beam HID only, perhaps spots for high beams. Experience, anybody? Indiana location, see lots, few cops stop, I guess OK unless terribly misaimed, hope for significant light improvement.

you're going to get to hear some naysayers with this post! Some of the Ebay kits are fine. If you go with bi-xenon, whick I recommend, make sure they are the ones that have an accuator that moves the bulb when you switch to high beams. Some of the kits just have a small H1 bulb attached for the high beams. Not very bright. The 5000K is a good color temp. The slim ballasts are nice for hiding. Shouldn't get pulled over by the cops. I have a good friend that works at DFAS in Indy and he has never been pulled over for his HIDs. Same around KY. I don't have Ebay here at work or I'd send a link to one of the good kits. I'll try and do that later at home.....

The ghetto dakotas of that body style had rectangular sealed beams which opens more possibilities. Myself, I'd get e-code halogens... but even those can take HID refits!

kick me a link to HID vendor you have had favorable experience with, please. If I had the sealed beam unit I would just put in Cibie, even though the sealed beams are the rare small squares. It would cost me way more time and money to do that then to buy and install a decent quality HID unit. Thanks!

On a motorcycle forum I frequent they just use the ebay HID 9003s. I got an "autopal" round e-code off ebay that seems decently built, but regrettably doesn't fit my bike.

I picked up an HID kit for my 1994 explorer which uses the 9004 bulbs for about 130$ at a local retailer a couple years ago, and they still work. I pulled them out because I needed high beams for distance because I started doing a lot of night highway driving and the HID's are really good for close up, but without it being bi-xenon, I couldn't see to far ahead, without aligining my headlight lenses higher, which then made me blind oncoming traffic.

I did a 9004-9007 conversion to improve from stock.

HIDs used to cost around 150$ a few years back and today most sellers are struggling to sell them for 30$... the market is over saturated and many are coming up with creative ways to make theirs look better.

OEM HID bulb is rated to 3000hrs.
OEM HELLA GEN 3 Ballast is rated at 2000hrs...
Chineese kits < No one knows for sure, I had one blow within 100hrs, while the other one is still kicking to this day...
