"I have a 1995 Volvo 850 N/A. Volvo recommends 10w30 for my temp band (-4F to 104F). I am in Central NC so that is fine for temps."

Hmmm, the owners manual for my '96 850 preferred 15W-40 for mild to hot climate use and allowed for 10W-30. You might look again.

10w30 was the recommended all season oil grade. 15w-40 was recommended for driving while towing or in the mountains.

Exactly and you want to try dino 15W-40 at 20°F? NO way. The thing will spin with great difficulty.

Of all the oils I've run in my 1996 850 NA the best results are with 0W-30 and 10W-30.

I if were running conventional oil in an 850 in North Carolina I would run 15W-40 in the summer and either 5w or 10W-30 in the winter. In fact, that is what I did with my 850 when we lived in Texas. North Carolina summer days can get mighty close to, or over, that 104 F number.
