Hearing him talk made me think of Quint from Jaws.
 
You can be sure he's closing his eyes while tacking, nobody would be able to look at an arc like that, not intentionally at least. Bet he's got a nice sunburn though.
 
Welders don't talk about it, because it takes too long. Would be useful for outside items that you don't want open ends on.

Excellent. Im building a 68 roadrunner and I want to replace the trunk floor with a Charger floor and use a Charger gas tank so I can have the fuel fill up on the quarter panel. I just need to find a wrecked late model Challenger to cut the fuel fill off. I was wondering whether I should flange the edges or what...

The guy knows what he's doing, and since he still has his eyesight, you can bet that he knows when to close and open his eyes. It's not what they teach in school, but.....
However, he REALLY needs to get that air compressor moved to a different area.
