The mechanic took it for a drive. Started out with little power. By the time he got it it to town it was doing 20 mph. He then put it on a lift after it cooled down and started it and touched catylatic converters and one was very hot to the touch. That is his theory on testing them. He also said that the exhaust was blowing out of the tail pipe about two inches and it was extremely hot. Evidently it has gotten worse since we had drove it last because it wasn't doing 20 mph when we drove it.

tell him to remove the pre-cat 02 and to drive it. If power is normal, then its plugged. That cat is cheap, it must be aftermarket. the ford unit is significantly more. Unless you want to keep changing catalyic converters use the ford unit.

Well we FINALLY figured out why every new belt started squeeling after a few days to a week. The engine coolant recovery tank had 4 big cracks in it and antifreeze was dripping on the belt. Replaced the tank and no more squeel!!

Bad tanks are common. I had to replace mine a few years ago. I hope you didn't get a Dorman part. They crack even faster than oem. I got lucky when I was buying my tank and got an oem off a forum member who got rid of his car. It was brand new with a new cap.
