Helmet sizing

Once the piece is pulled down it squeezes together more, pushes the cheeks a little. Only problem is it bothering my ears a little. But maybe like you said it'll break in.
You'll find different helmets have different ear pockets. There are some brands i can't wear bc of this. Scorpion was one of them , iirc.

Ear pockets don't really break in, either. It will bother you forever if it's bad enough

The shape of the helmet is very important. I stick to certain models of Arai helmets, because I have a "Long-Oval" shaped head. LS2 & Icon also make Long-Oval helmets.

From Revzilla's website, Arai's helmet shape & associated models are described below:

LONG OVAL (very long front-to-back, very narrow side-to-side). On this end of the scale, we have the Signet-Q model, offering additional forehead room for those who find that most helmets have pressure points in the forehead.

INTERMEDIATE OVAL (a little shorter front-to-back and a little wider side-to-side than the Long Oval). This next fit package comes in the Corsair V, XD-4, Vector and Vector 2 models, which begins the shift from oblong towards round.

INTERMEDIATE ROUND OVAL (even a little shorter front-to-back and a little wider side-to-side). This next fit package is represented by the RX-Q. While the "roundness" is not dramatic like an HJC or Nolan helmet it is a slightly more round and forgiving fit for more Touring applications and wider brows. The RX-Q is Arai's newest most comfortable shape which should fit even more of a range of riders more perfectly.
My previous helmet was a LS2 Strobe Modular. I am in between the intermediate oval and long oval depending on brand and size.
The LS2 was a 3x, and fit great.
My Bell Qualifier is a 2x, and also fits great (maybe a touch tighter in the ears).

I had a HJC helmet when I first started riding, and it was torture on my forehead after about 30 minutes of riding. I knew nothing about heads being different shapes and just bought a helmet based on head size.

Once the piece is pulled down it squeezes together more, pushes the cheeks a little. Only problem is it bothering my ears a little. But maybe like you said it'll break in.
I had to modify the ear pocket in my LS2. I pulled out the cheek pads and trimmed a little bit of the foam that was pushing on my ear. Was worse on my right than left ear. After the trimming, it was fine.
Give it a little time before trimming, as said, it may break in.
Also wearing glasses can cause some pressure points than may require some additional trimming.

Don't think this one has ear pockets or mine don't line up. Maybe I could trim it not sure. Yeah I screwed up buying this one after seeing the date also. Probably not the first. I have these two also, primarly wear the black one but above 40mph the wind messes with it. Might try the Vega for a bit, mostly got it for passengers. Got those two back when the top speed was 35.. the new scoot goes 55-60.

Like mentioned above head Shape is really important. I've used the lidpicker site and purchased their kit for measuring. You can get away without it but it made it easier measuring solo. They certainly don't have every, or even most, helmet in their database but it helps. I also shop at motorcyclegear.com, which includes a voucher for most of the purchase price.

I'm late to the party and maybe a little off topic...

ALWAYS fasten the chin strap when size-testing different helmets.

I made that mistake a couple years ago. I was trying on and comparing a dozen different helmets at my local shop, so I wasn't fastening the chin straps. It was just easier to quickly swap from one helmet to another.

I ended up settling on a $600 Schuberth helmet that seemed to fit my noggin really well.

I went home to think about it and see if I could find a better price online... And I found the same helmet for $350, including shipping, from the Netherlands.

When it arrivedin the mail, I put it on my head and it felt great. When I went to fasten the chin strap, I discovered that instead of being aligned with my jaw bone, the straps aligned with the back of my ear!

I contacted the seller who replied that they only had that problem with "Fat Americans", and that i was welcome to send it back to Antwerp if I paid return shipping... $200!

Rather than lose $200 I put the helmet up for sale on my local Craigslist and Facebook marketplace for $300. It took about 2 months, but eventually some skinny college student came and bought it.

I insisted he try it on with the chin strap fastened before he left. It fit... But I don't think I was ever that skinny! Lol

I never had that problem with Shoei, Arai, Bell, or HJC helmets... But Schuberth helmets definitely don't fit me.

Fasten the chin strap. It matters!
