I am going to be installing a condensate pump and am considering having it go right into my main house drainpipe. Is there any reason that I shouldn't drain it this way?

You will need to install a trap for the condensate drain when you tie into the main drain. The trap fills with condensate during the cooling season and that will keep sewer gas from getting into the house. But unless you have another source of water for the trap during the months when you aren't running the A/C, the water in the trap will evaporate, allowing the sewer gas to pass through.
