Here is the product.

Amazon has it for $40.

is this nice to have, need to have or irrelevant for a mechanic?
Thinking about a Thanksgiving gift for my exceptional indy mechanic.
He is not into German cars, if that matters at all.

Thank you in advance.

It seems that the main (Only?) advantage of this tool is that you can bleed the brake without the need to remove the wheels. Very handy for professional mechanics where time is money.

As a Hobby mechanic i always remove the wheels and use a ordinary box wrench on the bleeder.

So, personally i would look for some other (cool) tool as a gift.

Yes, it's not a bad idea at all to remove the wheels and thoroughly inspect the whole hub assembly

Danke

I have seen them and never felt the need for it and i can get it cheap money. Many times the bleeders are rusty and need a little more finesse than just wrenching it.

How you gonna get the bleeder hose through the socket ?

I start off with a hand sized 6 point 6,7 or 8 mm combo wrench. I try very hard not to shear bleeders. I have used sockets if the bleeder is hard to reach.

I would be worried about putting side thrust on a stuck bleeder.

Once you have a bleeder lose, even an open ended wrench will work just fine to open and close it while bleeding.

On a bleeder that I haven't worked on before and already greased up to keep future rust away, I like to use penetrant and then my low power impact to chatter back and forth a bit with the 6 point socket. I don't use wrenches first if I don't 'know' the bleeder=works good.
