Blackstone comments: "Copper made a nice improvement here, as your engine matures past break-in. The viscosity of the oil was slightly low but thats not hurting anything. No moisture, coolant, or fuel was present. Silicone improved so we think your air filtration/ induction system is working well. Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were very low at 0.1%, showing excellant oil filtration. All wear was in the proper balance to indicate normally wearing parts at work inside your 2.7L. We have no problems to report. Try 5000 miles next time. The engine can take it!"

My comments: Not too bad. It looks like the engine is pretty well broken in now and the oil is working well.

Wow 405 Flash and .1 insolubles. Metals are extremely low. Couldn't be any better. What was your Oil change interval on the last analysis?

Keep it up, stretch it to the 5k max allowed by warranty and enjoy. All systems are in order. Good engine. I know my 1gr is chain driven, and the previous generaltion 2.7 4 banger was chain driven. Is this engine a chain driven as well? If so I am impressed.

The viscosity is ripped to shreds though; many 5w-20s are 55 Sus. Obviously it's not a problem in terms of wear numbers but it's still something to consider.

Yes the 2TR-FE is chain driven. The spec for this engine is 5w-20 now, so I think I'm probably ok. I don't know if I would use this oil for long OCIs after the warranty runs out. They will probably have something new out by then so we'll see what happens with the new formulas.

The timing chain in these newer Toyota engines is an excellent mechanical shredder of VII's, each link to pin interface is like a set of scissors. It didn't harm a thing.

The chain setup in that engine is the best I have seen as a Toyota tech. Many have gone over 350K without any problem and the engine as a whole is bulletproof.

It's interesting that my own Tacoma with this engine ended it's last OCI with almost the same viscosity. After 4470 miles, it was 54.0 @210F.

I've thought about switching to a group III oil that would sheer less, but this post has made me double think that. The black bottle Havoline is a whole lot cheaper than their synthetic.
