I found some Havoline Formula 3 old stock that is at least 3 or more years old in stock at Jefferies Supply Store. My questions to all is this old stock of oil o.k. to use in a vehicle since it is so old and been sitting on the shelf so long? It may be 5 or more years old, I just don't know?

Shell claims that motor oils in general have shelf lives of up to 5 years. As long as your Havoline lube is in that ballpark and also meets the same API spec your ride calls for, I personally wouldn't be too concerned by using it. API SH, SJ, and SL came out for the '94, '97 and '01 new car models, respectively.

If it's made by Equilon it's not the same havoline this bbs is currently positively raving about. It's not bad, but the next/current generation is better. Wouldn't pay more than 50 cents/quart or so for it...

The Shell-Texaco Equilon venture dissolved in 2001 when Texaco merged with Chevron, and Formula 3 was dropped from the new Havoline label.

Recently, I spied about 1/2 dozen bottles of 10W-30 Equilon Havoline Formula 3 on the shelf of an older Advance Auto parts store.

If it were my store, I'd put it on sale for 50 cents, or give it to an employee just to free up the shelf space for a product that sells!
