Havoline 5/30 SM in Subaru - What interval

I changed the factory fill in my Forester at 3400 miles with Havoline 5/30 GF-4 SM. I have about 3k miles on this interval. I'm open to opinions as to how long I should keep it in. I just returned from Wal-MArt with a 5qt jug of Havoline SM for the next change. It was attractively priced at 6.44

What is the MFG. recommended interval?
Every 3000 miles is cheap insurance.

Most oils today are usually good for 5k. Unless you have a small sump, drive in severe conditions, or drive almost exclusively short trips, you might need to change at 3k. I'd say Havoline should be good for 5000 miles.

I change my dino oils often at 3-3.5K. If you're not highway-aggressive or a frequent stop & goer, 4K OCIs should keep your engine clean for a long time. At roughly $10 for each OC, I'll repeat what another poster said.... that's cheap insurance.
