You mean synthetic SE with too much sludge at 3,000 miles? Not what pop Sicence showed in april 1976. Sludge wasn't a problem for synthetics since then. I think you saw a lot of sludge from Mineral oils. link above
PAO will sludge. It was prone to sludge in 1976 also.
