I am about to sell my 1996 Crown Vic 4.6 with 157k miles. I have been talking about selling it for awhile, but now I am ready. After I fix a few things, it will be ready for sale.

I want to change the engine oil, but I do not want to use up my stash of "premium" oil. I do have some Delo HD30.

I live in South Texas where the temp does not go below 50f. Cold starts are of no concern.

I will probably put less than 500 miles on it before it is sold on the Delo30.

Your thoughts.

I would spend 10 bucks on some cheap 5w30 & a filter and just consider it an investment to insure that you don't scare off a prospective buyer with cold start engine noise caused by the 600+ centistokes of an HD30 at temps below 50 degrees.

Just toss in some Super Tech 5w30 for under $8 and call it good. Those engines like the thinner oil.

Dood, it's great oil. I have used it in 5 different cars over the lst year. Every case consumption is down and smoothness is up. Likely the engine will be extra quiet and smooth on start.

Blue99, I live in South Texas. The temp does not fall below 50f. Today I washed my dog outside and jogged around the neighborhood in shorts! It's that warm here.

I like Syntec's idea.

I returned all but one 1-gallon jug of the HD30 a few months ago after reading AEHAAS' paper on oil. I was going to keep the one jug for my lawnmower, but now it's going in the Vic.

Im sure some police or taxi folks somewhere used it... Of all places for it to be OK, youre likely in the right place.

It may not be optimal, but you are putting an oil that is still going to do the job. If someone is such a tool hat they trust anything a used car seller says, and does not do SEVERE PM on the car after purchase, they deserve trouble.

Youre going through more of a hassle than most sellers would, good on you. I wouldnt worry about it much - use what youve got, buy some other cheap oil if you have a chance, whatever is easy, glad youre doing a nice step for the next buyer.

IslandVic - Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in February!

After the last 3 weeks of snow & near or below zero weather, in Wisconsin, I'd love the idea of putting on a pair of shorts & helping you wash the dog & taking a jog in South Texas!

I've used Delo SAE30 mixed with a greater quantity of 5W-20 in my '96 4.6L several times. The engine runs smoothly and quietly, and oil consumption seems lower than normal. The engine doesn't even scratch itself to death during the OCI. Try a MC - Delo blend. It is deluxe!
