Has anyone used an aftermarket valve body for the Subaru TR580 CVT?

All the lights came on on a 2015 Forester SJ 2.5/FB25 with the TR580 CVT
The check engine, VDC, AWD, and also the AT Oil Temp light is blinking! Codes P0700 and P27 something, solenoid performance/stuck off . I forgot the exact 2700 code it had when I cleared it

The OE valve body is $800+ and usually out of stock. It is currently out of stock :sneaky:

Dorman and others make an aftermarket solenoid, but most people report those only lasting a few thousand miles and will still end up needing a new valve body anyway :poop:

I found aftermarket valve bodies on ebay and amazon for $250-300. Has anyone used them?

Any possibility of just magnetic mush causing an electrical issue as has been posited before?

I guess obviously you wouldn't know until you're in there....

No help but curious how you fix this.

Although ultimately @BHopkins theory appeared to not work out.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a common problem in Subarus :sneaky:

Even people who change the fluid every year still have solenoid problems :(

I have not used the aftermarket valve body but i did use the Dorman Solenoid. It's been working fine for 18 months.

My take on your situation is the aftermarket valve body probably has no name solenoids on it. So if you are trying to be frugal, just buy the Dorman Solenoid for $50 and install it vs. A $200 questionable valve body.

Subaru is stupid for not selling them separately.

Nidec Tosok is the OE supplier for the valve body and the solenoids. I found their site but no catalog.

I've seen South main auto on YouTube do the valve body swap on CVT Subarus. Pretty sure Eric only uses OEM parts though.
