Seems like the commonality among them:

1) low population density
2) low unemployment
3) lots of green lawn, some snow, low temperature in general
4) great health care system
5) somewhat socialist society.

Auckland came in as the 4th equal best city to live in.I lived there for 40 years,on and off - and although it was a good city when I was younger,it's not so good now.Too many people and a poor transport network make it hard to get around.

silk, was not having a go, in fact i envy NZ.

just seems every 3rd kiwi is here to make a buck so they must not be too happy?

i would love living on the south island.

I think lot of younger people expect too much, they want to actually get somewhere in life....you can't do that here.Older people have got sick of slogging their guts out getting nowhere....OZ gets them somewhere. The place is just too small to achieve what some desire.I don't think I would of been able to do what I have done (us,my family) in another country. But monetary and physical possessions?....No,I'm not a big achiever there.

The South Island is great...but bloody cold! Lots of places here I'd love to live, and have lived in some of them. But finding work is the hard part.I no longer want to work in a small community where the job you have is the only job you can have - where the boss just tells you to leave if you don't like it.I want to be able to walk out and into another job.I now work in a small town, but with cities within commuting distance, and other towns close too.

FWIW, I saw a study once that said a lot of happiness in different places has as much to do with attitude and expectations as outside conditions. They said Finland was content because their expectations were lower.

Interesting perspective. I feel American people are getting a little out of control with material possessions. I know I would like to have more than I do. But I also know it would not make me happier.

Don't know if I would move to NZ, but would love to visit.........

I will post my Birth Certificate sometime in the Photo area.....

No kidding! I absolutely love living here during the April to October time period, but from November to March it's brutally depressing to me. Someday I'd love to have a home in Florida and live there for the cold months and then come back up here for the warm months.

While you are at it, you may as well paint a target on your forhead.

I suggest you take out all relevant information.

Well I like our winters! You just have to get a good winter hobby... Both these lakes are within 3 hours of the GTA.
Maybe there is something about having 4 seasons that makes people happy?

Getting? It's been this way for a very long time. My wife grew up in the 'burbs. There, two things were learned. You were in constant visual measurement of your worth by your material outward appearance (fashion, car, toys) ..and that love came out of a wallet. With that type of conditioning it's hard to see anything else. Money solves everything and will be the first solution reached for to tranquillize most anxieties.

I plan to post it as well as my Social Security card and Drivers license....

I thought about being a target. I would black out some info or just show the front and inside art work.

Very interesting chart.

Makes sense that Mexico, Central and South America have the lowest rates because of being predominately Catholic. Don't want to commit suicide and give the Big Guy upstairs more reasons to send you to [censored]........
