Car history : 2015 VW JETTA 1.8T GEN 3
50,000 MILES
GUMOUT used every 4000 miles or so
Oil change every 3000-4000 miles
0w40 Mobil and Castrol
Twice used CRC Intake valve cleaner
Borescope showed some carbon build up on intake valves , not horrible but there
Octane 87 from BP .
Car runs great .
Ok so 2 weeks ago i guess i had 10 gallons of gas in tank , I poured in a can of multi system clean up in . A pretty strong mix i believe bottle said up to 17 gallons . Drove to about 50 miles left on computer . I sucked 1.5 quarts of oil out and it went into a clean clear bucket . Bucket sat on my work bench for a couple of days , just poured it into a oil jug , could not believe the gunk on bottom of bucket , tons of carbon ! Should i change my filter , easy to do ? Change oil ? Only 1000 miles on it . Do another bottle of Gumout ?
The amount of carbon was just so incredible !

I don't think that Gumout product was responsible for removing that sludge. That product is not that effective. In fact, I don't think it helped at all. That sludge you see is what is in your oil pan and engine from all those miles using whatever oils you have used. With your maintenance regimen, that engine should have very little build up of anything. Maybe go to Pennzoil Platinum synthetic, which is touted as the oil to use to keep engine internals free of varnish and sludge.

Wrll i have never had the junk on the bottom of bucket before ever , and only 1k on oil ? It was a strong mix being on 10 gallons in tank .

Surprising amont of junk in the bottom of that bucket, on a new-ish engine no less. With frequent oil changes on great oil too. OK, this is an X-File episode.....
Maybe the Gumout hit some carbon on the pistons and loosened it up, but it sounds like more was there than what you could credit Gumout in the gas tank for doing.
Could be the CRC loosened up a bunch too.
Anyway, I recommend changing your oil filter. In fact, if you can (have the right tools), cut open the oil filter and see if the oil filter is catching it and clogging up.

Im sure some was but i believe i have read on this site carbon is too small to be picked up ?

No, chunks of carbon bigger than around 20 microns are usally snagged in the oil filter, after battering the oil pump a bit. ... I just can't see how this engine with that life cycle maintenance, has all that stuff built up.
How is your oil consumption? As in, does the engine need top-off more than about 1 quart in 3,000 miles or so?
That would indicate carbon and varnish build-up on the ringlands.

No , Zero oil consumption between changes . . VW is kind of carbon maker's to begin with . Tomorrow im going to pull a plug and take a look at piston top .

Well im about 8000 miles a year on this car for last 2 years . Too many trips under 20 miles also . Thats why im doing the short OCI .

Just pulled a plug and put a borescope in . Clean as a whistle . Did a borescope before treatment and there was carbon , so i answered my own question

im sorry, but what a worthless thread. i've noticed this forum is horrible about posting pictures.

i understand it's not always easy to grab a picture, but in this case a picture of the jug with carbon at the bottom woulda been cool (yes, i AM able to picture it in my head). would just make your boring story a lil more credible.

Yes Sir i should have snaped a picture . Worthless well mabe it will stop someone from using the fuel treatment after a oil change instead of before . I have seen countless useless threads on this site , but i dont bash the author .

What a worthless post

Im sure your nearly 10,000 posts have been JUST incredible also . Maybe the post should have been a discussion about 2.00 vs 3.00 oil filters with them cut open , now thats good stuff .

Ok i didnt take a picture ! I gave cars history used a product and stated that it removed alot of carbon . carbon ended up in oil . This site is like a bunch of little girls fighting all the time .Jeesh im out of here .

Think you are correct to always use fuel system cleaner on the last tank before an oil change and to also tear apart an oil filter to see what's going on across the filter media …

We have standards here. You story doesn't make sense.
