OK, so over here M1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, RedLine etc is stupid expensive, all at or above $20 per Litre. No Way.

I don't know why so expensive, but I do know what it means to me, I just don't buy the above products. What I do buy is the more reasonable priced brands: Castrol, Valvoline, Shell, Penrite, and Nulon. The last two are local brands. Penrite make some fine stuff, like a full PAO & Ester oil called 10-Tenths.

Then I keep an eye on the sales, and I buy my oil when it's about half price. Hence I picked up some GTX UltraClean at $15 for 5L, when the regular price is about $35 to $40 for 5L. In Australia, you should only buy oils when on sale and then stock up. It's a big price difference. But sales are very regular, so not a problem.

KCJeep, how is the GTX UC working out for you? Which wt. are you using, and for how long?

Was using it in the Jeep, but I finally sold that. I also have it in the Focus right now, as well as my soon to be daughter in law's Cobalt that she has unfortunately neglected in the past. I like it. It would be my top pick for anyone doing "conventional" OCI's. I run it at 5k intervals.

In Australia, if you talk to non-oil people about oils, about the only oil they could name is GTX. It has a big presence here.

It's good to see that Castrol keep GTX modern and up to date, as it is a default choice for many people who don't know oils. Such a rep is hard earned, but easily lost.

The standard OCI here is 10,000 KM (6000 miles) and I bet a lot of cars are doing that on GTX 15W40 with it's SN & A3/B3 rating. In Oz, the omnipresent 3.8L Buick V6 takes 15W40 according to Holden (GM Australia), well it did before everything became Dexos.

Yep good old 40 grades are the norm for cheap oil over here. For the fella claiming it's not cheap, it's around 11 bucks if you convert currency.

Our petrol (or gas-oh-leen) is about $1.50 per L too. You guys paying almost 6 bucks a gallon yet for fuel?

Nothing now, I already bought the Lincoln over a year ago. I should have sold the Jeep shortly thereafter, but I had grown kids who needed it that were driving it around for a while, and honestly I had a real hard time letting go of it. Finally the insurance bill for it to mostly just sit there was too much for my conscience.

Gas here has recently jumped up, but I am still paying about $2.50 a gallon in the midwest.

BOF, he's talking $1.50 (AUD) per Litre, that's 1.06 qt or 0.26 US Gallons.

This translates to $5.70 (AUD) per US Gallon, or $4.30 (USD) per gallon.

The Australian government, doesn't do engineering, so no CAFE or fuel economy regulations, what it does instead is put a high tax on fuel as an economic encouragement to use less fuel. It works, people tend to buy more fuel efficient cars, and manufacturers supply to this demand by improving fuel economy. How the car makers improve fuel economy is up to them.
