I never jumped on the GC bandwagon, when it exploded. I didn't feel a need to hunt down product, since some shops didn't carry it. I've been using Amsoil 5w40 in my GTI 1.8T for the last 15k.. no problems to date. However, I'd still like to try GC.. since I'm out of Amsoil at the moment. What's the diff between Green and Gold (I searched but didn't find much?). Is green still easily obtainable? I havent' checked my AutoZone lately.

Basically the GREEN Castrol 0w30 (Made in Germany) is an older formula of the now new Gold Castrol 0w30 (Made in Germany). If you look on the bottom of the oil quart it will have Mxxxxxxxx. The Gold is M05+ whereas the M03 and M04 numbers are the Green Castrol. Around here in Northern LA California all the Autozones carry the gold (M052xxxx) castrol 0w30s. Although there isn't a great deal of certainty - The gold formulation is basically equal to the green one (the gold is just a newer formulation).

OriginHacker21. I don't think that there has been enough UOAs to prove that Gold is indeed par with Green. In fact, some things I *HAVE* read state that it's not better or equal. I don't have the URL handy, but apparently the anti-wear properties changed.. and not for the better?

Since I am running the gold now, I think the difference between the green and the gold is about this much -> || .... On a scale that cannot be drawn on this medium.

OriginHacker21: Maybe we're just lucky here in the IE (Inland Empire), but I see as many locations with Green as with Gold! [Wink] So much so, in fact, (and don't flame me elves) I've stopped buying the GC. 4 cases is enough (given all of my other oils in my stash).

That is great to hear for those of us who bought tons of GC before realizing there was a Gold and a Green. Turns out my entire stock is GOLD. [Razz] I almost had a heart attack when I read someone's post saying that GC Gold was a fake. LOL [Razz] Thankfully I went on to read Patman's postings and saw the used oil reports from blackstone. What a relief!!! [Smile] Thanks ReyJay1

I've found 12 UOAs of the Gold GC. Not sure I can say the Gold is as good as the Green yet. Any other opinions or comments?

Thanks vad. Hmmm...I wonder if the Gold is simply not as good in diesels, or there's more to the chemistry. Wonder if MolaKule has any insight.

I'm using GC Gold with 5oz. of Valvoline VSOT (Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment) for an additional dose of ZDDP, Moly, Boron... as an "additive package" enhancement in one vehicle and using only GC Green in another. Both vehicles get 1oz. of Lube Control every 1K miles for during the interval. Will post the UOA sometime this late spring/summer Bowser
